The Fimbul Ice Shelf is an Antarctic ice shelf about long and wide, nourished by Jutulstraumen Glacier, bordering the coast of Queen Maud Land from 3ðW to 3ðE. It was photographed from the air by the Third German Antarctic Expedition (1938âÂÂ1939), mapped by Norwegian cartographers from surveys and air photos by the NorwegianâÂÂBritishâÂÂSwedish Antarctic Expedition (1949âÂÂ1952) and from air photos by the Norwegian expedition (1958âÂÂ1959) and named Fimbulisen (the giant ice).
