It is a right tributary of the river Siret. At ChetriÃÂ, near BacÃÂu, it flows into the Siret. Its source is in the Rodna Mountains, at the foot of the . It flows through the counties BistriÃÂa-NÃÂsÃÂud, Suceava, NeamÃÂ, and BacÃÂu. The towns Vatra Dornei, Bicaz, Piatra NeamÃÂ, Roznov, BuhuÃÂi, and BacÃÂu lie along the BistriÃÂa. The BistriÃÂa is long, and its basin area is .
