Fengshun (postal: Fungshun or Pungshan; ) is a county located in eastern Guangdong Province, China, and falls under the administration of Meizhou City. Historically, it was one of the eight counties of ancient Chaozhou (æ½®å·Âå «éÂÂ). It borders ChaoâÂÂan District of Chaozhou City to the east; Jiedong District and Jiexi County of Jieyang City to the south; Wuhua County and Xingning City to the west; and Meixian District, Meijiang District, and Dapu County to the north.
Fengshun County covers an area of 2,706.34 square kilometers. It administers 16 towns, one stateâÂÂowned farm, 261 administrative villages, 20 urban communities, and two management zones. The total population is 734,000, with a permanent resident population of 479,000.
Fengshun County was established in the third year of Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1738). It was placed under the jurisdiction of Chaozhou Prefecture at that time. From 1988, it is placed under the jurisdiction of Meizhou City.
Fengshun is characterized by a predominantly Hakka population. Most residents speak Hakka, while Teochew constitutes the regionâÂÂs second major linguistic group, reflecting the countyâÂÂs position at the cultural crossroads of Hakka and Chaoshan traditions.
FengshunâÂÂs distinctive geographic position has fostered a deep integration of Chaoshan culture and Hakka culture, giving rise to a unique regional identity often referred to as "ChaoâÂÂHakka" (潮客) culture. Within the county, Hakka and Chaoshan communities coexist harmoniously, shaping what is known as the âÂÂhalfâÂÂmountain Hakkaâ (Ã¥ÂÂ山客) cultural tradition.
The region is also home to GuangdongâÂÂs characteristic She ethnic culture, as well as the famous Puzhai (Ã¥ÂÂ寨) "Fire Dragon" festival (çÂÂç«é¾Â).
Fengshun County's executive, legislature and judiciary are based in Tangkeng (), along with its CPC and PSB branches. The county is responsible for the administration of 16 towns and one Township Enterprise.
The area is served by Fengshun railway station on the GuangzhouâÂÂMeizhouâÂÂShantou railway and Fengshun East railway station on the MeizhouâÂÂChaoshan high-speed railway.
