Faro is one of the 22 multi-member constituencies of the Assembly of the Republic, the national legislature of Portugal. The constituency was established in 1976 when the Assembly of the Republic was established by the constitution following the restoration of democracy. It is conterminous with the district of Faro. The constituency currently elects nine of the 230 members of the Assembly of the Republic using the closed party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2024 legislative election it had 381,108 registered electors.
Faro currently elects nine of the 230 members of the Assembly of the Republic using the closed party-list proportional representation electoral system. Seats are allocated using the D'Hondt method.
During the 20th century, Faro was a left-leaning bellwether district, having voted with the national winner for all elections until 2002, with the two major parties having a tie of seats. The 2020s is now marked by the rise of Chega as it was the first ever district won by the right-wing party due to insatisfaction with the national government and the rise of immigration. In 2025, Chega got their first plurality of seats in either a constituency ever.
