Epietiocholanolone, also known as 3ò-hydroxy-5ò-androstan-17-one or as etiocholan-3ò-ol-17-one, is an etiocholane (5ò-androstane) steroid as well as an inactive metabolite of testosterone that is formed in the liver. The metabolic pathway is testosterone to 5ò-dihydrotestosterone (via 5ò-reductase), 5ò-dihydrotestosterone to 3ò,5ò-androstanediol (via 3ò-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase), and 3ò,5ò-androstanediol to epietiocholanolone (via 17ò-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase). Epietiocholanolone can also be formed directly from 5ò-androstanedione (via 3ò-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase). It is glucuronidated and sulfated in the liver and excreted in urine.
