Ekimchan

Ekimchan () is an urban locality (a work settlement) and the administrative center of Selemdzhinsky District of Amur Oblast, Russia, located on the right bank of the Selemdzha River. Population:

Climate

Ekimchan has a strongly continental subarctic climate (Köppen climate classification Dwc) with dry and bitterly cold winters and short, warm, and wet summers. It experiences a difference of nearly 50 degrees C between average summer and winter temperatures. Above-freezing temperatures in December and January are unheard of. Its winter temperature is exceptionally cold for its latitude of 53 degrees, being a few degrees colder than that of the notoriously cold city of Norilsk, located at 69 degrees, and about the same as that of the north pole. Ekimchan's average annual temperature of nearly -5 degrees C indicates widespread presence of permafrost.
