Dutch Boats in a Gale

Dutch Boats in a Gale is an 1801 oil painting by the English artist J. M. W. Turner. A seascape, it depicts Dutch fisherman struggling against a storm.

It was commissioned by the Duke of Bridgewater as a companion piece to a seventeenth century painting in his possession. It was displayed at the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition at Somerset House. Today it is in the collection of the National Gallery in London.
