Doug Shane (politician)

Doug Shane is an American politician currently representing the 37th Kansas Senate district as a Republican.

Biography

Shane was originally from suburban Overland Park but moved to rural Louisburg attending the Louisburg High School. Shane joined the Future Farmers of America developing a new passion for agriculture, and mixed it with his pre-existing passion of biology and science leading to his pursuit of a career in Animal Health. Shane has a PhD and D.V.M. from Kansas State University. Shane was a professor of animal health at Kansas State University prior to his election.

Shane ran to replace Molly Baumgardner in the 37th Kansas Senate district as a Republican. Shane has touted his amendments to the Kansas Open Meetings Act and Open Records Act to regulate third-party litigation funding. He also amended the state budget to allocate $300,000 for the Kansas School for the Deaf.
