Dialium ovoideum is a tropical species of plant in the family Fabaceae. It is endemic to Sri Lanka. The Sinhala (Sri Lanka) name à ¶Âà ¶½à · à ·Âà ·Âà ¶ºà ¶¹à ¶½à · (gal siyambala) means "pebble tamarind" (à ¶Âà ¶½à ·Â: pebble-like/stone-like/hard). The Tamil name à ®ªà ®Âà ¯Âà ®Âà ¯ à ®ªà ¯Âà ®³à ®¿à ®¯à ®®à ¯ à ®ªà ®´à ®®à ¯ means "silky tamarind" which is named after the silky texture of the shell of the fruit. (à ®ªà ®Âà ¯Âà ®Âà ¯Â: velvet).
