The Danyang Woo clan () is a Korean clan. Their Bon-gwan is in Danyang County, North Chungcheong Province. According to the 2015 census, the number of members was 191,287. Their founder is U Hyà Ân who was said to be a descendant of mythical Yu the Great, however, due to a lack of ancestry literature, it is impossible to research if this is true.
The founder U Hyà Ân (ì°ÃÂÂ, 禹çÂÂ; 918âÂÂ1035) served as Jeongjohojang (ì Â조øìÂÂ¥, 飿ÂÂæ¶é·) during the reign of King Gwangjong of Goryeo. U Hyà Ân later married the youngest daughter of Shin Sung-gyeom (the founder of the Pyeongsan Shin clan), and had a son, Woo Shin (ì°ì , 禹è£; 939âÂÂ1066).
When Woo Jung-dae (ì°ì¤ÂëÂÂ, 禹仲大; 1212-?), U Hyà Ân's 6th generation descendant, reached and held the position of Munha sijung (, ), and he officially began the Danyang Woo clan.
His eldest son, Woo Cheon-gyu (ì°ì²Âê·Â, 禹天çª; 1237-?), was the Namseongjeonseo (ë¨ì±ì ÂìÂÂ, Ã¥ÂÂçÂÂå ¸æ¸), and his eldest daughter was Queen Jeongan (ì ÂìÂÂìÂÂàì°ì¨; 1238-?).
His second son, Woo Cheon-gye (ì°ì²Âê³Â, 禹天åÂÂ; 1239-?) was the Panseo (ÃÂÂìÂÂ, å¤æ¸), and the third son, Woo Cheon-seok (ì°ì²ÂìÂÂ, 禹天é«; 1241-?), was also promoted to the rank of Munha sijung.
Woo Cheon-gyu's son, Woo Tak (1262âÂÂ1342), died with the rank of Seonggyunjwaeju (ì±균좨주, æÂÂÃ¥ÂÂç¥Âé Â). Woo Cheon-seok's great-grandson, Woo Hyeon-bo (ì°ÃÂÂë³´, 禹çÂÂ寶; 1333âÂÂ1400), was given the title Internal Princess Danyang (ë¨ìÂÂë¶ÂìÂÂêµ°, 丹é½åºÂé¢åÂÂ). His daughter was Royal Consort Hyegyeong (ÃÂÂ경빠ì°ì¨; 1359-?).
Woo Hyeon-bo's eldest grandson, Woo Seong-beom (ì°ì±ë²Â, 禹æÂÂç¯Â; 1374-?), became King Gongyang's sire. Woo In-yeol (ì°ì¸ì´, 禹ä»ÂçÂÂ; 1337âÂÂ1403), a 10th generation descendant, was awarded the title of Contributor to the Founding Fathers of the Joseon Dynasty and reached the rank of Pansam Sasa (ÃÂÂì¼ì“¬, å¤ä¸Âå¸äºÂ).
The Danyang Woo clan produced 35 people who passed the civil service exam during the Joseon Dynasty.
