The second largest Christian branch is either Protestantism or the Eastern Orthodox Church depending on whether Protestants are considered to be one group or divided into multiple denominations.

According to a 2015 Pew Research Center study, Christianity is estimated to reach 3 billion adherents out of a projected population of 9.3 billion people in 2050, achieving parity with Muslim populations for the first time in history, which are predicted to be about 2.8 billion in 2050.
Christianity lost its majority status in the United Kingdom, Australia, France and Uruguay, where no religion/religiously unaffiliated forms majority.
