Breitscheid () is an Ortsgemeinde â a municipality belonging to a Verbandsgemeinde, a kind of collective municipality â in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.
Breitscheid lies in the Hunsrück between Koblenz and Bad Kreuznach. It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde of Rhein-Nahe, whose seat is in Bingen am Rhein, although that town is not within its bounds. The placename comes from the Middle High German breit and -scheid: âÂÂwooded ridgeâÂÂ.
The council is made up of five council members who were elected by majority vote in a municipal election held on 2 March 2008.
