Ayoub (film)

Ayoub () is a 1983 Egyptian television film based on a novel of the same name by Naguib Mahfouz, it stars Omar Sharif, Madiha Yousri, Fouad El Mohandes and Mahmoud El-Meliguy. The film is directed by Hani Lasheen, with a screenplay written by Mohsen Zayed. Ayoub marks Omar Sharif's first appearance on Egyptian Television.

The film is considered one of few television films that achieved success outside of cinema, similar to the film I'm Not Lying But I'm Beautifying (1981). Ayoub premiered at the Rivoli Cinema in the Cairo, as the first television film to be shown in cinemas. The premiere was attended by prominent intellectuals, critics, and politicians in Egypt, and it was met with great acclaim and success.

Synopsis

Abdel Hamid El Sokary, a successful businessman, who competes with the ruthless businessman Fadel. Abdel Hamid becomes paralyzed and begins to reminisce about his life, recalling his childhood friend Galal. He calls Galal, and they spend time together, reminiscing about their youth. Galal advises him to write his memoirs, which Abdel Hamid begins to do. Abdel Hamid's wife and son reject the memoirs, fearing they will bring them trouble because of the characters mentioned in them, including Fadel.
