Apan is a city and one of the 84 municipalities of Hidalgo, in central-eastern Mexico. The municipality covers an area of 346.9 km<sup>2</sup>.
As of 2005, the municipality had a total population of 39,247.
It was an important site in the War of Independence (1810âÂÂ1821). It is a center for the production of pulque and for the sport of charrerÃÂa, or Mexican rodeo.
Apan's sister city is Elkhart, Indiana, United States.
