Anil Roberts is a Trinidad and Tobago politician from the United National Congress (UNC).
Roberts is a swimming coach by profession. He coached Olympian George Bovell for the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Roberts served as a Member of Parliament in the House of Representatives for D'Abadie/O'Meara from 2010 to 2015 for the Congress of the People (COP). In July 2014, he resigned as Minister of Sports.
He was appointed to the Senate as an opposition senator for the UNC following the 2020 Trinidad and Tobago general election. Roberts attempted to be screened for selection to be the candidate for St. Joseph in the 2025 Trinidad and Tobago general election, but he was not selected.
In May 2025, Roberts was appointed Minister in the Ministry of Housing by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
In March 2026, screenshots purporting to show WhatsApp conversations between Roberts and a 16-year-old girl began circulating on social media.
A teenager identified as Alicia posted the screenshots on her Facebook account, claiming they depicted inappropriate exchanges initiated by Roberts in August 2024 when she was 16. According to the screenshots, the person believed to be Roberts addressed the recipient as "Alicia," inquired about her weekend plans and a visit to her grandmother's house, offered to pay for a meal with friends ("take care of the cheque"), compared the situation to a boyfriend paying for a meal, and asked to speak with her on the phone. The girl alleged that Roberts had behaved inappropriately toward her as a minor.
The circulating posts prompted public backlash on social media, with some users criticizing Roberts and drawing comparisons to past high-profile cases.
Roberts denied the allegations in a video posted on his official TikTok account. He described the claims as "fabricated nonsense," stated that the language in the screenshots did not match the way he speaks, and accused PNM-linked opponents of orchestrating the incident. He announced plans to take legal action against those responsible for spreading the material.
He married in 2013.
