Al-Malik al-Ashraf IsmÃÂÿël ibn al-ÿAbbÃÂs, numbered al-Ashraf IsmÃÂÿël I, was the seventh Rasà «lid sultan of Yemen from 1377 until 1400. He succeeded his father, al-Afá¸Âal al-ÿAbbÃÂs, and continued his patronage of literature and scholarship. He was also faced with several revolts and Zaydë raids. He was the author or co-author of a history of Yemen, FÃÂkihat al-zaman ("The Fruits of Time"), which overlaps substantially with the KifÃÂya wa-l-iÿlÃÂm of ÿAlë ibn al-Ḥasan al-Khazrajë. On his death, he was succeeded by his son, al-NÃÂá¹£ir Aḥmad.
