Alexandru cel Bun is a commune in NeamàCounty, Western Moldavia, Romania. It was called ViiÃÂoara until 2002, when its name was changed. The commune is composed of seven villages: Agârcia, Bisericani, BistriÃÂa, ScÃÂricica, Vaduri, VÃÂdurele, and ViiÃÂoara (the commune center).
The commune is located in the central part of NeamàCounty, just west of the county seat, Piatra NeamÃÂ. It lies on the banks of the BistriÃÂa River, amid rolling hills. It is crossed by national road , which connects Piatra Neamàto Bicaz, to the west of ViiÃÂoara, and on to Târgu MureÃÂ. The BistriÃÂa train station used to serve the CFR railway joining Bicaz to BacÃÂu, but has been closed and left in disrepair.
The main attraction is the BistriÃÂa Monastery, a Romanian Orthodox monastery located in BistriÃÂa village. It was dedicated in 1402, having as original ctitor the Moldavian Voivode Alexandru cel Bun, whose remains are buried here.
