Joe M. Adams Junior High School (AJH) is a public junior high school located in Fulshear, Texas, United States. The school serves students in grades 6 through 8 and is part of the Katy Independent School District (Katy ISD). It opened in August 2019 to accommodate rapid population growth in western Katy ISD and serves portions of the Cross Creek Ranch community.

History

The campus was initially planned as "Junior High #16" as part of district expansion efforts to address increasing enrollment in western areas of Katy ISD.

In 2018, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees voted to name the school after Joe M. Adams, who served on the board from 1989 to 2016. During his tenure, the district experienced significant growth in both enrollment and infrastructure.

The school opened for the 2019–2020 academic year. In June 2024, Marc Kampwerth was appointed principal, succeeding the founding administration.

Campus

Joe M. Adams Junior High School is located at 4141 Cross Creek Bend Lane in Fulshear, Texas. The campus is situated on a site shared with Jordan High School, one of the largest high schools in Katy ISD.

The school primarily serves as a feeder campus to Jordan High School, with attendance boundaries defined by Katy ISD.

Academics

The school has received an "A" accountability rating from the Texas Education Agency, reflecting performance across standardized testing, student progress, and closing achievement gaps.

According to U.S. News & World Report, Adams Junior High was ranked among the top middle schools in Texas in 2024. Reported performance indicators include:

  • Mathematics proficiency: 86%
  • Reading proficiency: 83%

Student life

The school’s mascot is the Viking, and its colors are navy blue and gold. Students participate in a variety of academic and extracurricular programs.

Academic competitions

  • Science Olympiad: The school participates in regional and state-level competitions. At the 2024 Texas Science Olympiad State Tournament (Division B), the team placed 13th overall.
  • Quizbowl: Adams Junior High competes in Texas Quiz Bowl Alliance events and hosted the 2025 TQBA Jamboree.

Athletics

The school participates in University Interscholastic League (UIL)-aligned junior high athletics within Katy ISD. Teams have competed in district-level events, including football and cross country.
