Abuþl-ÿAbbÃÂs Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn ÿAbd al-SalÃÂm ShihÃÂb al-Dën al-Manà «fë al-ShÃÂfiÿë (1443âÂÂ1527) was a writer in Mamluk and later Ottoman Egypt.
He was born in Manà «f on 11 June 1443 (14 Rabëÿi 847 in the Islamic calendar). He studied at Cairo before returning to Manà «f to serve as a ḳÃÂá¸Âë (judge). He died in 1527 (931).
Al-Manà «fë was primarily a writer of local and regional history. Among his works are KitÃÂb al-FayḠal-madëd fë akhbÃÂr al-Nël al-sadëd, a tract on the Nile and its source; KitÃÂb al-Badr al-á¹ÂÃÂliÿ min al-á¸Âawþ al-lÃÂmiÿ, an abridged version of Shams al-Dën al-SakhÃÂwë's treatise The Light that Shines on the People of the Ninth Century; and KitÃÂb al-Naṣëḥa bi-màabdathu þl-qarëḥa. He had access to the now lost work of the 10th-century writer Ibn Sulaym al-AswÃÂnë on Nubia.
