The 7th Infantry Division is a formation of the Bangladesh Army. Headquartered in Barisal, the division was inaugurated as part of the Forces Goal 2030.
The 7th Infantry Division was established to serve the Barisal Division. Due to BarisalâÂÂs high vulnerability to cyclones and flash floods, the division was organized with an emphasis on both civil support and military logistics, previously relying on the 55th Infantry Division from Jessore for reinforcement. The 7th Infantry Division functions as a primary rapid-response force for natural disasters and contributes to security and military presence in southern Bangladesh.
On 14 November 2017, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council approved the project and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated Lebukhali Cantonment and hoisted the flag of the 7th Infantry Division headquarters on 8 February 2018. The project will have an estimated cost of $16 million as part of Forces Goal 2030 budget.
A total of 15,512 posts and 33 military units will be created in 11 phases under the new infantry division. Current General Officer Commanding of the division is major general Khair Uddin. Currently there are only 11 units under this division. Under the division, there is two infantry brigades, one artillery brigade, and one armoured regiment.
