3-Hydroxyisobutyric acid (or 3-hydroxy-2-methylpropanoic acid) is an intermediate in the metabolism of valine. It is a chiral compound having two enantiomers, <small>D</small>-3-hydroxyisobutyric acid and <small>L</small>-3-hydroxyisobutyric acid.
