2024 South Dublin County Council election

An election to all 40 seats on South Dublin County Council was held on 7 June 2024 as part of the 2024 Irish local elections. South Dublin is divided into 7 local electoral areas (LEAs) to elect councillors for a five-year term of office on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV). There was a 41.4% voter turnout.

Changes since 2024 Elections

  • †Independent Cllr Paddy Holahan was elected for both Tallaght Central and Tallaght South. Under Irish Electoral Law he could not represent both areas. He chose to represent Tallaght South and fellow MMA fighter, Dean Donnelly, was co-opted on 9 September 2024 for the vacancy for his Tallaght Central seat.
  • Palmerstown-Fonthill Fianna Fáil Cllr Shane Moynihan was elected to Dáil Eireann for Dublin Mid-West at the 2024 Irish general election. On 19 December 2024 Jacqueline Sheehy was co-opted to fill the vacancy.
  • Rathfarnham-Templeogue Labour Cllr Ciaran Ahern was elected to Dáil Eireann for Dublin South-West at the 2024 Irish general election. On 19 December 2024 Paddy Cosgrave was co-opted to fill the vacancy.
  • Lucan Independent Cllr Paul Gogarty was elected to Dáil Eireann for Dublin Mid-West at the 2024 Irish general election. On 19 December 2024 Helen Farrell was co-opted to fill the vacancy.
  • Tallaght Central Fianna Fáil Councillor Teresa Costello was elected to Seanad Eireann in January 2025. Adam Smyth was co-opted to fill the vacancy on 27 March 2025.
  • Palmerstown-Fonthill Irish Freedom Party Councillor Glen Moore resigned from the party on 27 February 2025. He currently sits as an independent.
