- Initiated state statute: Proposition 9 or Cal 3, proposed splitting California into three states. The proposition if passed would have required the state government to petition US Congress to split the state up with residents of the areas of the 3 new states being able to decide the names of their new states. The initiative was removed by the California Supreme Court on July 18, 2018. If it had been listed and passed, it would have been the first time a single state was divided into 3 states.
