The 2016 New Mexico Lobos football team represented the University of New Mexico as a member of the Mountain Division in the Mountain West Conference (MW) during the 2016 NCAA Division I FBS football season. Led by fifth-year head coach Bob Davie, the Lobos compiled an overall record of 9âÂÂ4 with a mark of 6âÂÂ2 in conference play, sharing the MW's Mountain Division with Boise State and Wyoming. Based on tiebreakers, Wyoming advanced to the Mountain West Championship Game. The team played home games at University Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
New Mexico was invited to the New Mexico Bowl, where the Lobos defeated UTSA. This was the last season the Lobos would be bowl eligible until 2025.
