During the Chargersâ first training camp in preseason, quarterback Ryan Leaf suffered a shoulder injury and missed the entire season. Following a 4âÂÂ1 start, the Chargers suffered six straight losses before winning four of their final five games to finish 8âÂÂ8.
Seau was the only Charger in the AFC Pro Bowl squad, which he reached as an alternate after another play pulled out; he was named second-team All-Pro by the Associated Press. Seau also received 1 of the 44 available votes for AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
