The 1948 Texas Longhorns football team was an American football team that represented the University of Texas (now known as the University of Texas at Austin) as a member of the Southwest Conference (SWC) during the 1948 college football season. In their second year under head coach Blair Cherry, the Longhorns compiled an overall record of 7âÂÂ3âÂÂ1, with a mark of 4âÂÂ1âÂÂ1 in conference play, and finished second in the SWC. Texas concluded their season with a victory over Georgia in the Orange Bowl.
After the season, Tom Landry signed with the New York Yanks of the All-America Football Conference. Texas was ranked at No. 20 in the final Litkenhous Difference by Score System ratings for 1948.
