- February 15 â The first Republic serial, Darkest Africa, is released.
- May 29 â Fritz Lang's first Hollywood film, Fury, starring Spencer Tracy and Bruce Cabot, is released.
- September 14 â Film producer Irving Thalberg, often referred by many as the "Boy Wonder of Hollywood", dies from pneumonia at his home in Santa Monica, aged 37.
